i think the best way to catch more fish is to fish more often. you should learn something everytime you go fishing. even if you don't catch a fish on a perticular trip, you can still learn from that. either you weren't in the right place, or you wern't using the right lure, or both. next time, you can try a different spot with a different lure and hopefully have better success.
one of the best ways i improved my club fishing is joining nbaa. you can fish 3 hour tournaments during the week on just about every public inland lake in the area. when i first started fishing the event, i was not very successful. the short period of time to fish wasn't enough time for me to catch a limit of bass and compete for a check. i slowly over time got more used to fishing that 3 hour tournament, and learned how to power fish and catch a limit quickly.
that has greatly improved my fishing in the ocba. i am so used to catching a limit in 3 hours, that when i fish an 8 hour tournament, it seems like forever on the water. it gives you much more time to try different lures and fish many different locations and patterns to find what the fish want.
also, fishing the nbaa, you can see where most of the guys are fishing at least once during the tournament, and when you find out who won the tournament, you have a general idea where they were catching those fish from. you can see if they were working one particular weed bed, or fishing docks, or just running and gunning.
i personally fish every monday and wednesday nights with nbaa. i also fish some tuesday and thursdays as well. the competition is pretty tough in every division. there is definately a learning curve that takes a little while. most teams don't just show up and win right away... it takes a couple of years. i would highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn how to catch more fish, join the nbaa and fish a few tournaments. you don't have to fish every week, you can just fish lakes that are close to your house, or lakes you like to fish. they are team tournaments, so you need to find a partner. visit
