Gentlemen,
At tomorrow’s meeting we’ll be discussing numerous tournament-related topics. What follows is a list of the topics I plan to cover tomorrow. Our primary goal is to pick lakes, and dates so I can turn in permits ASAP. Many other tournament-related issues will be discussed at later meetings to save time.
BACKGROUND:For the new members, in 2009, we fished:
1 C&R team tournament
1 C&R individual tournament
7 points tournaments
1 team tournament
1 MBI tournament
1 Classic (2 days) tournament
1 last chance tournament
For a total of 14 possible tournament days, and 13 weekends on the water. This doesn’t include the picnic, kid’s event, etc.
INITIAL QUESTIONS TO RESOLVE:The following topics need to be decided on before we can finalize a tournament schedule in order to start the permit process. Here’s the plan:
- Are we still comfortable picking lakes, dates and getting permits before we know the schedule for the TBF, BASS, NBAA and other tournaments? (this is effectively what you voted for when you voted to move the Tournament Director’s job ahead two months)
- Do we still want to fish 7 points tournaments or should we change the number?
- Do we still want to fish two St. Clair tournaments as points tournaments?
- Do we still want to fish St. Clair in the Spring and Fall as in the past, or change the Fall date to earlier in the year?
- What is the preferred launch for the 2nd St. Clair tournament? (Lake or river? Which launch?)
- Do we still want to fish a night tournament?
- How many catch and release tournaments do we want to fish?
- Are the C&R tournaments using an individual format, or team format, or one of each?
- Would we rather forego one or two of the C&R tournaments and go on a weekend trip instead with two days of tournaments on a lake up North somewhere?
- Do we still want to do a last chance tournament in the Fall?
LAKE SELECTION PROCESS:Attached you will find a report of nearly every lake we’ve fished in club history, how we fared, lake sizes, launch sizes, etc. This list should be the list we should select our 2010 lakes from. I’ve eliminated some lakes that the launch is too small, the lake is too small, or are too far away to fish as points tournaments. Here’s the process we’ll use:
- By marking the choices on the attached report, each attending member at tomorrow’s meeting will get to choose three lakes he wants as points lakes, two lakes he wants as C&R lakes, and two lakes for the night tournament.
- The one or two highest voted lakes for C&R will be chosen.
- Dave D. will tally the votes and we’ll determine the top 10 lakes voted for as points lakes.
- Then we’ll revote (two votes for points lakes and night tournament lakes ) on the top 10 lakes and narrow it down to the top 7 (or whatever we choose) lakes to be used as points tournaments and one for a night tournament.
- The highest voted lake for a night tournament will be chosen.
- The next couple lakes on the list will be our alternates if we can’t get permits for the top vote getters.
Note: To save time, we will not schedule dates for the C&R or last chance tournaments, as we don’t need a permit for these tournaments. We can do that at any of the next few meetings.
REMINDERS/NOTES:As far as I can see, we no longer have the bylaw that we used to have that stated that we can’t fish the same lake two years in a row.
So, if you want to vote for any of the 2009 lakes, you’re f’ree to vote for them again.
Based on the 2010 calendar and the club’s history, I believe we would not be fishing 1) Easter weekend, 2) Memorial day weekend, 3) 4th of July weekend and 4) Labor day weekend. So, that leaves very few weekends to schedule tournaments.
PREPARATION FOR THE MEETING:
Please read over this post and come prepared with your thoughts on the questions listed above, and the lakes you might like to fish. This could be a very long discussion if we don’t keep the discussion short, so please come prepared with some succinct comments.
