here is the number to get your canadian license now.  1-800-667-1940.
call that number, it is the ontario ministry of natural resources itself, and get your license.
all you need is a credit card, and they mail the license to you in a couple weeks.
this is the cheapest way i know of to get it.  you can call lakeside, and they will get it for you, but they do charge a fee for their effort.

It's also a good idea to get a passport now too.  That way you're set for the year.

i recently read on LSC.net that a passport will be required to cross the canadian water border this year.  and, if you're a minor you also need a consent letter from a parent.  does anyone know if this is fact?  there was a ton of discussion about the same last year, but we all know it wasn't the case.  if i'm correct, you still don't even need a passport to cross the bridge, so why would it be different on the water?  or, maybe i'm wrong.  thanks.

as far as i know right now, you do not need a passport... and will probably stay that way this year...  everything i hear different is unconfirmed...   you can cross the bridge with just your drivers license, and for now, it should be the same on the water...  i have a passport, but i do not bring it with me on the water.  i will if someone can confirm that it is required, nitroderrek

I think I read somewhere that sometime this year that they are going to require the passport for crossing into canada (June or July I think)....   while at the rock financial fishing show I talked to the border patrol and was told that you wouldnt need to have a passport to fish canadian waters unless you step foot on land...      Also the state of Michigan, this year is going to offer an enhanced drivers license, cost about $45, that you can use to cross the border without the passport (according to the border patrol person I spoke too).

If you already have a passport for $20.00 you can get a passport card that will be easy to keep in your wallet and is just like a passport except not valid for international air travel so if Roger had one and went flying out of his boat again in canada water he would be in trouble. I sent for mine already. Louie

The rules are suppose to change on June 1. The way I read it if you went ashore or anchored in Canada that you would need a passport or card but it was not real clear
